When F. Scott Fitzgerald was 6 years old he had a birthday party to which nobody came. He waited on the porch all afternoon in his freshly pressed suit but nobody showed, so at last he went inside and ate his entire birthday cake, including several candles.

I love my friend Stephanie’s response to this:

1. It reminds me of the I Love Lucy party where she thought everyone forgot her birthday, so she found a group in the park called The Friends of the Friendless and showed up at Ricky’s club with them, but everyone did remember her birthday after all, so she kinda gave her new friends the boot.

2. I also think of how piglet didn’t want to go out because he was scared and he hid under a chair, but then Winnie the Pooh and everyone else threw him a “staying in” party.
